I wanted to bring you a local Chicago band to give you a flavor of what music is really like here (no, it's not all hip-hop and house!). These guys play at a club I go to often, and I keep missing them for one reason or another, but they're awfully good. They have an EP coming out soon and just released their third LP last fall, Almost Dead. I'd say their sound is straight up rock and roll, in that Midwestern way, rooted in punk and post-punk history and tinged with some good old-fashioned working-class resentment. These two new tracks see them going in a more pop-punk direction and I'm quite addicted to Courtney's Basement. I have to admit. Johnny Rumble was always melodic, always good, but these songs are pop gems. It only makes me want to go searching their back catalogue to soak up the harder, rawer bits even more. But then, you know me... I'm a glutton for that kind of thing ;)I was a bit worried that I was gonna ruin JC's pop-rock cred with these tracks, but he assures me that "nothing is ever too catchy for TVV"! and the more I listen to these, the more I can really imagine one of his beloved Britpop groups belting out a version of this. Well, a version... because Johnny Rumble is pure Chicago goodness. So enjoy them, darlin's and come see them at one of my favorite clubs here sometime, xoxo
Johnny Rumble is:
Brian Webb - Vocals, Guitar
Patrick O’Connor - Vocals, Guitar
Jeremy Pryor - Vocals, Bass
Seth Thomas - Vocals, Drums
As of this posting they are unsigned, but I don't expect that to last for much longer!
P.S. They're giving these songs away for free on last.fm :)
TODAY'S GUEST POSTING IS COURTESY OF TART, OF THE BLOG LOVE SHACK, BABY.

Aww thanks darlin's! I did finally get to see Jonny Rumble about two weeks ago and they delivered all this and more! It was fantastic to see a young band like this be even better than on their recordings. You are too kind to indulge me, but I'm so grateful you have the good sense to like these guys, hehhee
And JC, you are shameless, and wonderful, and I adore you, you know. We shall meet and dance like 14 year olds some day to some great music somewhere! xoxo
word verification: swool! so close, only missing an "n" instead at the end xx
Basement does sound like White Stripes, but Modern Way is very Strokes-ish. Catchy tunes...
Ooops!!!!!
JC in cock-up admission.
It was only when I read the comment by The Warden that I realised I've got the tunes the wrong way round. Not sure if it was me or tart who labelled them wrong.
Modern Way is the one that is sort of White Stripes sounding, while Courtney's Basement is the one that reminds loads of The Strokes>
Sorry for the mix-up. Its all sorted now.
Good fun.
Yeah, these guys are very cool and have a pretty cool back catalog! They are releasing a new Single in July titled Opportunities with a B Side. I just found out they will be doing a show at SUB T in Chicago for the Single Release on July 10th!

This band really entertains! The drummer is awesome-such an energizer and never misses a beat- The singer-Brian- INTOXICATING, and his screams-awesome!!! Pat and Jeremy really do complete the band and make the show interesting with a fullness that has not been heard since the Doors! Looking forward to the new cd-until then Courtney's Basement has me hooked!
