IDEAS FOR XMAS (2)

The memories of Valentine's Day 2009 will remain with me always. It was the day when I finally got to see Magazine play live. It was a gig in their home town. A couple of days later they played in Glasgow, and again I was lucky to be in the audience. I posted a review of both events on the blog. Click here if you're interested.

The next night they were back in Manchester - I wasn't there, but there were loads of cameras which filmed the whole thing which in due course became the focal point of today's recommendation for Xmas stockings the world over.

Real Life + Thereafter is all 18 songs played at the Manchester Academy on Tuesday 17th February 2009. It's as stunning a performance as both of the shows I has been at on the 14th and 16th of that same month. What you also get is a live CD from the show they performed at a London show on Friday 13th February. And as a bonus, there's one live clip from that show also on the DVD as well as a stunning live version of Feed The Enemy in the rehearsal studio (which, having now seen, has left me even more bemused that it never made the cut for the final setlist).

Ok, this DVD/CD combo package is a wee bit more expensive than the Butcher Boy LP I recommended yesterday, but I still reckon its cracking value for money. It's the perfect momento if you were at any of the gigs, and if you didn't get along, you can have a look and listen and find out what all the fuss was about and see that its not hyperbole on my part.

mp3 : Magazine - Thank You (Fallettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) (live)

Buy it from just about anywhere. Try here if you're stuck - it's the official shop for the band nowadays.

Oh and bonus clip from a recent TV appearance:-

Considering how awesome the Auguts gig was I think i should definitely put this on my Amazon list...already got the Butcher Boy album, but it is a great idea, too...

Probably the only thing I am going to buy myself for Xmas this year! I think Howard might have even more of an edge now than 30 yrs ago!

ive got a copy. it is superb. im pretty sure it is filmed/edited over the 2 dates they played at manchester rather than just the final night of the tour. a must have for anyone who was there! the bonus cd is also a nice listen

I was at the Academy gig. It was every bit as good as I'd hoped for.
The only sad part was the absence of the late John McGeoch. As a guitarist, he was always an inspiration to me, both when he was in Magazine and later in the Banshees.
