mp3 : The Wonder Stuff - It's Yer Money I'm After Baby
This was the fifth single by The Wonder Stuff and the first to trouble the charts, sneaking in for the one week at #40. But 13 out of their next 14 singles all hit the Top 30 in the UK, including a #1 hit with Dizzy, a collaboration with comedian Vic Reeves in October 1991.
It's easy to forget nowadays just how massively popular this lot were at the beginning of the 90s.....at one point they headlined a gig with almost 20,000 in attendance at Walsall football stadium near their own home town. It's also a scary thought to realise that this bit of vinyl is now more than 20 years old.
Even if you're not a fan, have a listen to one of the b-sides for its inspired attack on the pop-tastic machine that was Stock, Aitken and Waterman. Poor little Rick Astley.......

Always had a soft spot for these guys. Wish they were still making music together. It seems like this is a case of a band that will forever be underrated when they are evaluated. Glad to see you're keeping them alive.
The Wonderstuff are still going, although mostly as a nostalgia thing. And it's not really the Wonderstuff, especially as two of them are no longer with us.

Miles used to share a flat with an old friend of mine. Haven't seen him for a long while, the last time was New Years 2002, just after Joe Strummer died. Miles and me were Pips to a mate of ours in drag being Gladys Knight. Was pretty damn funny!
Thanks, JC, great pick. Didn't have those b's, either. Always loved the energy of these guys.
Thanks to Simon, too, for the link. Lost track of the band and glad to be reminded. Think I'll put them on later and turn up the volume...
Great band. Their early stuff had a wonderful spitefulness.
I was going out with a girl circa 1989 and, strangely, "Unbearable" kind of became Our Tune. Odd given the whole "Didn't like you very much when I met you" vibe.
Suffice to say, it didn't last...
