SONGS FROM BEFORE THEY BECAME BETTER KNOWN UNDER A DIFFERENT NAME
Back in 2000, an LP called Much Against Everyone's Advice was released by a little-known group from Belgium. They were called Soulwax.
I bought the LP after seeing and enjoying a promo for a single on late night MTV. It was for this track:-
mp3 : Soulwax - Conversation Intercom
It is still a song that I enjoy...I find it a bit like The Wannadies.
There's a couple of other tracks worth mentioning but other than that the LP is a bit too one-dimensional for my liking:-
mp3 : Soulwax - Much Against Everyone's Advice
mp3 : Soulwax - Too Many DJs
If the name of the latter track sounds familiar then it's probably because you've see or heard of 2 Many DJs who are among the most popular and sought after club acts in Europe....and 2 Many DJs are in fact the founder members of Soulwax.
Oh I know its way more complicated than that...and yes I know Soulwax have since released other material since 2000, much of which is rather good in a dancey-sort of way. And yes, I accept that 2 Many DJs have been at the cutting edge of much of what has happened in clubs over the past decade, particularly in respect of making remixes of songs and 'performing's shows that take small segments of songs and cleverly run them into one another....but when it comes to the indie/pop/rock stuff of their LP from 2000 it's more miss than hit.
Happy Listening
