THE FALL 458489 A SIDES (Part 6)

Returning for another belated look at this newest of wee series on TVV, highlighting the run of singles released by The Fall on Beggars Banquet between 1984 and 1989.

I said before and I don't mind repeating myself.....the Beggars Banquet singles are for the most part absolute classics. The Fall you can easily dance to.

Three great singles in 1984 had stalled at #93, #91 and #99 in the charts

Two even better singles in 1985 had stalled at #90 and #96.

It took until 7 July 1986 for the next single to appear.  A bit more downbeat than the previous five efforts, it has a lyric that was as Morrissey-esque as anything Steven Patrick had written:-

Crow's feet are ingrained on my face
And I'm living too late
Try to wash the black off my face, but it's ingrained
And I'm living too late

Sleepless, in-control spleen
Agreed ace family
Must have stump tripod in the genes
I'm immune to things

In my dreams
I saw through the trees
O'er the poison river locks
Talk treacherous would beat
But still my heart it is rock

Finally going through old parasite gate
But there's a 24-hour clock watch
And I'm living too late

Sometimes life is like a new bar
Plastic seats, beer below par
Food with no taste, music grates
I'm living too late

Once talking was my favourite while
But now I know a conversation's end
Before it's done
Maybe I'm living too long

I see trouble on the streets
Fearing catastrophe to meet
Walk down the devil's boulevard
But still my heart is hard

They say them cellars were't evil black
But I know they're wrong
Think it's one
Been Living Too Long
And I'm Living Too Late

Great tune that you can dance to....for the most part....but there's a couple of really weird bits where it goes all trippy and psychedelic leaving the listener a bit disorientated.  As such it was never a candidate for daytime radio exposures,

BEG 165T, released as a 12" single only, it stalled at #97.  However, it would be another eleven singles and four years before a single by The Fall had its chart progress halted in the 90s

The next one was a hit....of sorts.

Great tune, don't know how you would dance to it though

Me....I can dance to anything....might not look all that pretty a sight but I can throw shapes to 'Living Too Late' (except for the trippy sections!)
