THE SMITHS ON BRITISH TELLY (Part 26 and 27)

I'm running two parts together this week as it allows me to finish off the series.

Having been such a mainstay of music programmes on British telly between late 1983 and 1986, the final year that The Smiths were together saw next to nothing. Just a wee bit of promotion for singles released in January and April 2007.

First appearance of the year was this Top Of The Pops performance in February

Then in April, we had what none of us realised at the time would be their last live performance on telly, courtesy of The Tube:-

And finally....the last Top Of The Pops outing from later in the same month:-

Hope you've enjoyed this wee series.  Big thanks of course to all those whose uploads to youtube I've shamelessly stolen....but I do have just about all of the footage myself on VHS....

Final couple of mp3s to accompany today's footage:-

mp3 : The Black Tulips - Shoplifters of The World Unite
mp3 : The Smiths - Sheila Take A Bow (unreleased version)

The latter is a version recorded with John Porter in early 1987 but in the end ditched for a fresh recording later on.  The original is notable for the use of a sitar.....

Happy Listening

Nice version of Sheila Take a Bow. The more overblown single release seems more apt though.
