THE SINGULAR ADVENTURES OF EDWYN COLLINS (Part 14) aka SATURDAY'S SCOTTISH SINGLE (Part 45)
On 20 September 2002, the 14th single in the career of Edwyn Collins was released to much indifference.
It was the second single lifted from the LP Doctor Syntax, and unlike the previous single - The Beatle$ - which was only made available on vinyl, Johnny Teardrop was only made available on CD.
It was a remixed and slighty shorter (by 10 seconds) version from that on the LP:-
mp3 : Edwyn Collins - Johnny Teardrop (remixed and radio edited)
It's a better single than many at the time gave it credit for with some lovely backing vocals courtesy of the hugely talented David McAlmont.
There were two tracks backing the single:-
mp3 : Edwyn Collins - Never Felt Like This
mp3 : Edwyn Collins - The Popstar
The former is a track that can be found on Doctor Syntax but the latter was a previously unreleased song and as b-sides go it's more than passable with its 'I'm a popstar , I demand to be indulged' refrain and the nod to his biggest ever hit single as the music fades out.......
Little did any of us know, that by the next time Edwyn released a single, he's have been at death's door on more than one occasion.
